The Google Business Profile Checklist Every Local Business Is Missing

Krivio Team May 18, 2026 5 min read

If you search for your own business on Google Maps right now, what do you see? For most local businesses we audit, the answer is: an incomplete profile, outdated hours, and zero recent photos.

Start with these fixes, in order of impact. First, your business category — Google shows you for searches tied to your primary category, so an auto shop listed only as "Establishment" is invisible for "car service near me" searches. Second, photos — profiles with 10+ recent photos get significantly more direction requests than those with none. Third, posts — the update feature most businesses ignore is one of the easiest ways to show Google your profile is active.

Reviews matter too, but not just the star rating — how you respond to them signals activity to Google's ranking system. A profile that responds to every review, good or bad, tends to outperform one that never replies at all.

None of this requires an agency to fix on day one. But most business owners don't have the time to keep it updated month after month, which is usually where the real value of ongoing management comes in.
